Floating Litter Monitoring

The Floating Litter Monitoring system, consisting of a mobile computer application and a data management website, enables the collection of such data.

https://floating-litter-monitoring.jrc.ec.europa.eu/welcome-page is required to start monitoring. Once signed in, you will be able to upload your surveys, view, manage and download them.
The system allows scientific observers and trained citizen observers to document Macro Litter (i.e., litter larger than 2.5 cm in the longest dimension), from ships or bridges, floating on the Ocean, rivers or lakes, acquired during dedicated monitoring surveys.
The monitoring system can be employed for assessments under the Marine Strategy Framework Directive, national or regional work and scientific purposes, also beyond Europe, wherever needed.
The Floating Litter Monitoring App has been developed by JRC, in close collaboration with the MSFD Technical Group on Marine Litter, Regional Sea Conventions and the scientific community.
