Daniel Craig and Marc Forster were forced to write some sections themselves due to the writers' strike,[3] although they were not credited as writers in the final cut. The title was taken from a 1959 short story in Ian Fleming's For Your Eyes Only, although the film does not contain any elements of the original story. Filming took place in Mexico, Panama, Chile, Italy, Austria, and Wales, while interior designs were built and filmed at Pinewood Studios. Forster aimed to make a modern film that also featured classic cinematic motifs: a vintage Douglas DC-3 was used for a flight sequence, and Dennis Gassner's designs are reminiscent of Ken Adam's work on several early Bond films. Steering a course away from the usual Bond villains, Forster eschewed any grotesque aspects for Dominic Greene's character in order to emphasize the hidden, secretive nature of the film's contemporary villains. The film was also marked by its frequent depictions of violence, with a 2012 study by the University of Otago in New Zealand finding it the most violent film in the franchise. Whereas Dr. No featured 109 acts of "trivial or severely violent" violence, Quantum of Solace had a tally of 250, the highest number of depictions of violence in any Bond film. [4] Quantum of Solace premiered at the Odeon Leicester Square on October 29, 2008, to mixed reviews, with critics primarily praising Craig's tough performance and the film's action sequences, but feeling that the film was not as impressive as its predecessor, Casino Royale. As of November 2012, it is the third highest-grossing James Bond film, unadjusted for inflation, earning $586 million worldwide.
