Un comando irrumpió en el establecimiento, ejecutando a dos hombres e hiriendo a tres personas más. Entre los fallecidos se encontraba Alexis Armando N., alias "El Jaguar", presunto miembro del Cártel Jalisco Nueva Generación. Durante el ataque, la novia de "El Jaguar" fue secuestrada y hasta el momento su paradero es desconocido. La Fiscalía de Puebla ha asegurado el casino y está investigando el ataque, mientras la comunidad se tambalea ante esta ola de violencia relacionada con el crimen organizado. Previo a este suceso, el 25 de junio, Alexis Armando N. había sido detenido junto a su pareja en Santa María Catepec por alterar el orden público. El 9 de julio, seis atacantes llegaron al casino en un coche guinda, abrieron fuego, y en medio del tiroteo, Alexis y otra persona fueron asesinados. La Fiscalía ha incautado un arma de fuego, 30 elementos balísticos y ha revisado 77 cámaras de vigilancia. Las críticas se han dirigido a las deficiencias de seguridad del casino y a la actuación de las autoridades municipales.
