Today we're walking around Downtown Las Vegas, exploring the area just north and east of the Fremont Street Experience. It's not as packed with tourists, but it still has casinos and restaurants that tourists visit as well as a vintage Vegas vibe. We start outside the Main Street Station casino where old stained glass windows give a nod to the train station aesthetic inside, then we head onwards toward the Circa casino and its curiously named parking structure. The "Garage Mahal" has nearly 1,000 parking spaces and is the newest parking structure in Downtown Las Vegas. Turning toward the west, we swing by the California Hotel & Casino, a longtime favorite with visitors from Hawaii. As we walk farther into Downtown, we pass the corner of 1st Street and Ogden and take note of the closed hotel tower at Binion's, and throughout our walk, we notice some distinct smells like sewage and lit greenery. After passing by Pizza Rock and Triple George Grill, we check out the exterior of the Downtown Grand casino where a woman with big hair and high heels catches our attention, and we pass the Gold Spike bar, wondering exactly what its appeal is. At the intersection behind Neonopolis, we cross the road where cars are driving far too fast. One in particular makes a quick stop, and I turn around to see that a lady has opened the passenger door, is leaning out, and is throwing up. A few seconds later, I spot Madea. She looked so spot-on that I couldn't figure it out. — It was quite the cast of characters tonight in Downtown Las Vegas! And we finish our stroll outside the El Cortez, one of the oldest casinos in Vegas that's still operating.
