The Rio opened on January 15, 1990, with a 44,000 sq ft casino and 424 suites. It was the first all-suite hotel in Las Vegas . The Rio is managed by Caesar's Entertainment , but owned by Dreamscape Companies out of New York . At it's peak it had a nightclub that was always packed , a huge buffet called the Carnival World Buffet that was super popular with locals and visitors alike , concerts , The Masquerade Show in the Sky which was a float that went across the ceiling of the Masquerade Village area that had music and people riding it like Mardi Gras and they would throw out bead necklaces and such . It was a fun filled time at the Rio , but sad to say it is a ghost town now . The buffet is closed and the company said they will never re-open it . Most of the restaurants are either closed or only open limited hours . Most of the shops are gone . The nightclub is gone . They do have a comedy club that still seems to bring in business and Penn and Teller still have a show there , but I'm not sure how often they have it . The Poker Room is closed . They do have a cool KISS memorabilia store / museum / putt putt miniature golf course with KISS music playing and videos on the TV screens and black light objects throughout the course . I will be posting a short video of the KISS items tomorrow . VooDoo Rooftop Nightclub & Lounge was located on the 51st floor of Rio Las Vegas, above VooDoo Steakhouse which are both closed as far as I know . The news recently reported they will be doing some remodeling and I think it got sold to another company . The rooms were selling as cheap as $19 a day ! Most of the time I saw they were going for $25 a night , but of course you have to pay like a $30 a day Resort Fee like most Las Vegas hotels and resorts on and off the Las Vegas Strip . It will take a lot to get this place back to it's former glory if it can ever do so in my opinion . I just don't see it happening .
