Model Railroad & Slot Car HO Racing Layout: Slot Cars in video: Chevrolet Corvette C5-R 2004 Turquoise (Auto World Xtraction Thunderjet Ultra G) vs Ford Mustang GT 2016 (Auto World Xtraction Thunderjet Ultra G). The Chevy Corvette is from Auto World Deluxe Pit Kit that was self-painted and assembled and has a newer type chassis. HO trains in video: Illinois Central EMD E8A&B Diesel locomotive engines (Lifelike Proto 2000) and eight Walthers Illinois Central IC ("Icy") passenger cars like the famous train "City of New Orleans." The slot cars ran well and were fun to run around the track. They stayed on the track very well going quite fast in speed on the straightaway tracks in spite of having infrequent drivers. The two cars kept up with each other. The cars had nice range of speeds on the Parma controllers, so they could be slow through the curves and also sprint on straightaways. In the practice driving, they had to slow for curves, or the wheels lost contact with the road. With some practice they kept on the road. The occasional times car wheels lose contact with the road is usually at the squeeze track when they even try to pace and line up with the other car and bump it off the road sort of on purpose. These cars scuffed each other a few times at the squeeze track but stayed on quite well. One time both cars went off at the squeeze track caught on camera another time the Mustang hit a corner and rolled; the Corvette ran into it. The Mustang had 2 other speed rolls including flying to the floor. The Corvette did better in overall performance score with less mishaps. The main rule is stay on the road. On this layout racing, you win if you stay on the road and have least amount of car being disabled. Video is not at all in order or continuous, the one Canon camera on tripod was moved around various viewing angles (10) during the race to get the close-up views and the clips were edited and intermingled. It is interesting that Hollywood movie maker Orson Welles said about the movie studios and backlots in Hollywood, “This is the biggest electric train set a boy ever had!” Corvette is new acquisition in 2025.
