Now one great thing about this latch is that it requires no machining, and comes with all recommended mounting hardware. Now to get started, we are going to finish preloading our bolt side with one last bolt and one last T-nut. Now it’s important to note that when you’re putting on the T-nut, to have the pilot projection facing away from the bolt. Get that on there. We’ll just take our frame here. We’ll slide it into the open T-slot, find where we want to put it, and take our wrench and tighten it down. Now we’ll just take the latch side and slide it into the other open T-slot. We’ll line it up with our bolt, and we’ll latch it together. Once we have the latched together, we’ll go ahead and tighten down the latch side. Now once you have that tightened down, you have a strong secure connection. Now it’s worth noting that this latch also comes in a 90 degree style, which is going to prevent any snagging on your lever when it’s engaged. We were looking for a simple, inexpensive T-Slot Bolt Solution for the Stepcraft T-Slot table. Since the dimensions are metric, you can not simply go get bolts at the local hardware store since they are imperial dimensions. We found some bolts at our hardware store that are 1/4-20 with a large diameter head. The height of the head is perfect for the T-Slot but the head will have to be machined to fit the slot. I designed a rectangle that is 10mm wide by 20mm long and will use a 3/16" 3-Flute end mill. Since the bolts are steel, I set the depth per pass to .4mm. I saved the toolpath using the Mach 2/3 post processor (mm). I had to mill a 10mm hole in the T-Slot table which I also did with the Stepcraft HF-500 spindle and a 3/16" end mill. I installed the PM60 vice so the notch in the top of the vice is in the center of the hole that I made on the T-Slot table. The final result worked perfectly.
