This is a deep dive into a unique Scalextric product that lets you race any of your Analogue cars against yourself. I will show the exact steps to program the car and an overview of how to integrate this old track piece into your new Scalextric Sports track environment. Why is it unique? Scalextric Pacer System lets you program any of your cars magnet or non magnet. You record a lap controlling where the car accelerates and where it brakes (not just a fixed speed) allowing you to navigate your cars around the tightest of turns and down the longest straights on your track. If you use Scalextric then the competition for this kind of product is as follows. 1) Fixed Speed**, either through using rubber bands or sticky tape to depress the Scalextric throttle or by using a supported Arc Air or Arc Pro App. 2) Variable speed as far as I know the only other option for Analogue is Scalextric Challenger but this system only lets you race against its Mercedes Touring style car so it does not provide the same opportunity. Outside of Analogue, there are a few digital solutions designed around Scalextric with at least one being actively worked on in 2024. I believe it’s currently in beta testing and uses Oxigen by Slotit - which is almost native for Scalextric. You can do exactly what the Scalextric Pacer System does, however each car you use requires the Oxigen Chip installed (and not all cars have the space for the chip) and you need an SCP3 controller. You will also have to modify your track to provide 12v permanent voltage to the rail you want to run the car on. The second solution is a community solution for Scalextric and is a combination of parts but just like the Pacer none are still supported, not an issue as it’s a complete system but like the Pacer unit some parts may become harder to find. C7042 Scalextric Advanced Power Base, Riko Rocket special cable and the RSC64 software. There are other solutions from an Australian company called Scorpius but other than requiring chips and that they are thinking of dropping support for Scalextric in their latest chip set I don’t know much about it. Lastly there are solutions designed around other manufacturers track systems, SCX and Carerra but they are outside this discussion. ** A quick note on fixed speed, you’re limited to the car being able to get around your tightest corner which generally makes the car non competitive as its speed is limited by its mechanical grip. So a really quick car runs the same lap time as a slow car. With variable speed the quick car can accelerate and use its speed to do faster lap times than a slow car as it’s not limited by tight corners in your track - because you slow down for just that corner and go faster everywhere else.
