In 1977, Michael Gaughan demolished the motel to build the Barbary Coast Hotel and Casino, which opened on March 2, 1979, with 150 rooms and a Victorian-themed casino featuring stained glass murals, including the notable Garden of Earthly Delights. The Cromwell opened partially on April 21, 2014, with full operations, including its casino and Giada De Laurentiis’ namesake restaurant, commencing on May 21, 2014. In March 2025, Caesars announced a partnership with Lisa Vanderpump to rebrand The Cromwell as The Vanderpump Hotel by early 2026, with renovations occurring while the property remains open.
