Quantum of Solace Theme Song James Bond Daniel Craig Quantum of Solace (titled 007: Quantum in Mexico, original title in Spain) is the twenty-second James Bond film produced by Eon Productions and is the direct sequel to the 2006 film Casino Royale. Directed by Marc Foster, it features Daniel Craig's second performance as James Bond. In the film, Bond seeks revenge for the death of his lover, Vesper Lynd, and is assisted by Camille Montes (Olga Kurylenko), who is plotting revenge for the murder of her family. The trail eventually leads them to wealthy businessman Dominic Greene (Mathieu Amalric), a member of the Quantum organization, who intends to stage a coup d'état in Bolivia to seize control of that country's water supply. Producer Michael G. Wilson developed the film's plot while Casino Royale was being filmed. Neal Purvis, Robert Wade, and Paul Haggis contributed to the screenplay. Daniel Craig and Marc Forster were forced to write some sections themselves due to the writers' strike,[3] although they were not credited as writers in the final cut. The title was taken from a 1959 short story in Ian Fleming's For Your Eyes Only, although the film does not contain any elements of the original story. Filming took place in Mexico, Panama, Chile, Italy, Austria, and Wales, while interior designs were built and filmed at Pinewood Studios. Forster aimed to make a modern film that also featured classic cinematic motifs: a vintage Douglas DC-3 was used for a flight sequence, and Dennis Gassner's designs are reminiscent of Ken Adam's work on several early Bond films. Steering a course away from the usual Bond villains, Forster eschewed any grotesque aspects for Dominic Greene's character in order to emphasize the hidden, secretive nature of the film's contemporary villains. The film was also marked by its frequent depictions of violence, with a 2012 study by the University of Otago in New Zealand finding it the most violent film in the franchise. Whereas Dr. No featured 109 acts of "trivial or severely violent" violence, Quantum of Solace had a tally of 250, the highest number of depictions of violence in any Bond film. [4] Quantum of Solace premiered at the Odeon Leicester Square on October 29, 2008, to mixed reviews, with critics primarily praising Craig's tough performance and the film's action sequences, but feeling that the film was not as impressive as its predecessor, Casino Royale. As of November 2012, it is the third highest-grossing James Bond film, unadjusted for inflation, earning $586 million worldwide. Plot James Bond (Daniel Craig) puts Mr. White (Jesper Christensen) in the trunk of his DBS, but is sued by the latter's men on the shores of Lake Garda. He still manages to eliminate them all after a dangerous chase, which severely damages his car, and joins a secret branch of MI6 in the historic center of Siena, Italy.
