Capitol Reef National Park was Spectacular and this Slot Canyon provided even more Adventure than I had bargained for! A beautiful hike up Hickman trail lead to views of the bridge and on to some Class 4 climbing followed by tricky rappels into the canyon's depths, one very narrow and DEEP slot canyon. It was the only escape after 2 long rappels. A 60 meter rope was sufficient. Once on our way into the narrow getting lodged deep in the slot seemed to be a very real possibility while climbing/stemming along it up to 20' above its floor. It was challenging both mentally and physically. The slot was way too narrow to move across the bottom and slipping down there may well have resulted in becoming jammed in there and trapped! A successful trip through this canyon requires canyoneering experience and equipment to safely complete the it. As well as having a relatively narrow physique, seriously. . . Truth be told, I took my daughter and her friend to Capitol reef for spring break to rappel Cassidy Arch Canyon but, the Park service closed that route days before, luckily we did our homework, realized that was closed and, I asked the kids to pick an alternative. WOW, did they and of course I agreed whole heartedly.
