Súper Domingo de Súper Fiesta en Caliente Casino Gonzalitos

Join us as we hike from Wirepass to Whitehouse, via Buckskin Gulch. 2d/1n. This hike does require a permit. They only issue 20 permits a day, you will need to pick up your permit within 10 days of the hike. Permit: https://www.recreation.gov/permits/74984 How long does it take? From Wirepass to the campsite, it took us 9 hours, we could of made it sooner, but we were really enjoying our time in the canyon and we weren’t concerned about the time. If I were to do this hike again, I would start by 7 or 8am. From the campsite to the exit at Whitehouse it took around 3/3.5 hours, again you’ll want to start this hike early if temperatures are high, the canyon widens considerably after a mile or so, and you will be hiking in full exposure if you start late. When to go? It’s suggested to go during milder months like spring or fall to avoid the summer monsoon season which can bring sudden and deadly flash floods, no access to water, and extreme high heat. The heat is definitely an important factor to consider, if you are not used to it, especially with the added weight of carrying enough water and supplies, heat exhaustion and heat stroke can come up suddenly, and with the remoteness of this canyon, getting medical attention quickly is out of the question. At the same time it also worked in our favor, because most of the really deep water pools you need to wade through were either mostly dried up or easy enough to climb around. So how hard is it really? Well, that depends on you. Although there’s not a ton of elevation loss or gain, it is still a difficult hike mainly because the ground is super rocky and uneven the entire 21 miles. Okay, so what do you need to bring? If you’ve never done an overnight hike before, consider doing one that is more tame first so you can get the feel for it and to narrow down your gear. We were able to skimp in some areas, like not bringing a tent. Although you may want to because rattlesnakes are very common in this area, that was a concern. You’ll want to lay out everything you think you’ll need and consider if you’ll really use it. The water alone weighed 12lbs, and even small things start to add up. Here’s what I brought and actually used: 5.5 liters of water, a basic first aid kit (bandaids, mole skin, antibiotic ointment, Tylenol, and hydration tablets). I wore clothing that was thin and easy to dry, thin wool socks and an extra pair, your shoes are most likely going to be trashed after this hike, I wore an old pair of Merles that I got new insoles for to make them more comfortable. Sunscreen, a Garmin gps watch, baby wipes, a battery pack, headlamp. For sleeping I brought a cheap lightweight tarp, a Nemo sleeping pad, a thin blanket, a pillow I made. Of course you’ll want to bring food, I brought a dehydrated meal, some cliff bars, dried fruit, energy pouches, and a small stove and pot to boil water. *Its also good to have some ziplock baggies for trash and a dry pack to make sure everything stays dry. And here’s what I brought and didn’t end up using: a Sawyer squeeze and iodine tablets, I was able to ration my water and had some left over at the end of the hike, also the water that was thin enough for filtering near the campsite was pretty gross, had tadpoles swimming in it, also horses and mules comes through and go to the bathroom in the water, so its not ideal. Water shoes. I went through barefoot, but the others used shoes. Poop bag, you can’t dig cat holes back here, so its good to have just in case, and Rope, sometimes there’s a rope and sometimes not, so just assume its not there and bring one. Can I get lost? Yes, but probably not. The canyon guides you through, there are only 2 places where you have to make a decision, the first one is early on, after you go through Wirepass (1.7mi), you’ll reach the confluence where it intersects with Buckskin, you will see petroglyphs of sheep on a massive arched wall to your right, and you’ll go right to enter Buckskin. The second one, is the next day, not far after the campsite at the confluence with the Paria river, turning left here will put you north towards Whitehouse, if you miss this left and go straight that will put you towards Lees Ferry. What else do you need to know? No matter the time of year, but especially during the summer, you will want to check the weather, the day before you go and the morning of, not just for Kanab and Page, we also kept an eye on Panguich and Bryce Canyon. While there is an emergency exit, the chances of getting to it are slim in an emergency situation, so getting in a flash flood here would most likely not end well. Mark the Whitehouse lot on your gps, you won’t have any service on the hike, its not visible from where you’re walking in the wash. Tell someone reliable back home, where you will be hiking, where your going to park your car, and what time they should expect to hear from you. Hope this helps!
